Capsub ("the app", "we") adds captions to your videos. This policy explains what data the app handles. We designed Capsub to be private by default.
By default, transcription and caption export run entirely on your device using Apple's Speech framework and the on-device WhisperKit model. When you use these engines, your videos and audio never leave your phone and are not sent to us or anyone else.
If you choose the optional Pro (Cloud AI) engine, the audio track of the video you transcribe is sent over an encrypted connection to our server and to Google's Gemini API to generate captions. This audio is processed only to produce your captions and is not stored after the request completes. Your video file itself is never uploaded. You only use this engine if you explicitly select it.
To manage Pro access and free-usage limits, the app creates a random anonymous ID (via Firebase Anonymous Authentication). We do not collect your name, email, contacts, or location, and you do not create an account.
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple and managed via RevenueCat. We receive your subscription status (active / expired) tied to the anonymous ID — not your payment details.
We record minimal, anonymous, aggregate counters (for example, how many transcriptions or paywalls were shown) to improve the app. These contain no personal information and are not linked to your identity.
We do not show ads, do not sell your data, and do not track you across other apps or websites.
Capsub is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected here with a new date.
